Biography

Shauna Leavitt

Shauna Leavitt holds a M.M. and a B.M. in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Arizona State University and Utah State University, respectively. Since beginning her study of piano, Shauna has studied under the direction of Dr. Douglas Humphreys, Professor Gary Amano, Dr. Ralph van der Beek, Professor Dennis Hirst, and Dr. Baruch Meir.

Shauna is an accomplished piano teacher. She has taught at both USU Youth Conservatory as well as the ASU Prep Program . She has been honored as Teacher of the Year at the Youth Conservatory at Utah State and the Outstanding Keyboard Harmony Teacher by the Utah State University Department of Music. She has taught at the university level, as an instructor of Class Piano at both Utah State and Arizona State Universities.

As a performer, Shauna has performed as a soloist with the Utah Valley Symphony. Competitively, she has placed 1st in the Klatzkin Contemporary Solo Keyboard Competition at Arizona State, placed 2nd in the ASU Piano Concerto Competition, and placed 1st in the Utah Valley Young Artist Competition. She has also competed in the Utah State University Wasserman Festival, the Brigham Young University Piano Festival, and the Southern Utah University Festival.

Shauna served as Director of the 2nd annual Arizona Youth Piano Competition in 2007 and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Youth Piano Competition in conjunction with the Keogh Health Foundation. Shauna recently relocated from Phoenix, Arizona to Northern Virginia. While residing in Arizona she worked as an accompanist for the award-winning Honor Choir of Xavier College Preparatory while running a private studio of piano students. She was an active performer with the Tempe Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Michael Willson. Shauna was also an active member of both East Valley Music Teachers Association and Phoenix Music Teachers Association. Shauna continues to maintain her membership of the Music Teachers National Association. Shauna was invited to be the guest conductor of the PMTA Ensemble event, directing local music teachers in the Phoenix Valley.

Shauna is a new member of the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association. She is employed by the Keyboard Learning Center in association with Jordan Kitts Music.
